Why Were My BANS Sites Removed From Google’s Index?

I am fairly new to Internet marketing and am just now learning how to make money online. One of the first strategies that I am learning to utilize to make money online is eBay’s Partner Network (EPN), utilizing the BANS script. I have run into a few glitches in building my first few BANS stores.

A month ago I jumped on the INFO domain band wagon. I bought 75 of those little buggers. The plan was to build out BANS stores and highly focused niche sites. With the INFO TLD being so cheap this would really make it affordable for me to quickly build a large network of potentially profitable sites. However, it seems as of May 1st Google has done a mass de-indexing of most of the .info TLD.

Before this happened I had already built 5 BANS stores. The sites indexed fairly quickly. But, within a week they were removed from Google’s index. That was around May 1st. A week or so later I built two more BANS sites on INFO domains. I went ahead and built the two sites because I thought they were simply victims of Google’s INFO TLD purge. At first i thought this assertion was correct because these sites were quickly indexed.

I was elated at the prospect that my investment into INFO domains had not been in vain. But, sadly one week later the new sites were also removed from the index. Now being new to BANS and INFO domains and having little experience with SEO in general I am not sure why these sites were removed from Google’s index. However, there are a few possibilities for why these sites were removed from Google’s index.

  1. The INFO TLD has fallen out of favor with Google.
  2. Google does not like BANS sites (May see them as duplicate content with Ebay).
  3. The sites were too heavily optimized for Google.
  4. The sites were sand boxed because they were viewed as either spam like or keyword stuffed.
  5. The sites were removed from Google’s index because too many links were built to the site too quickly.
  6. The sites are in highly competitive niches with a lot of traffic and were sand boxed because they are new. (The vicious Google dance).
  7. The sites just simply added no value to Google’s index and were removed.
  8. The sites were reported as spam and sis not pass visual inspection.

If the sites were deindexed because of BANS I can change that. If the sites were deindexed due to over optimization, I can fix my optimization techniques. If the sites were de indexed because links were built too fast I can change my tactics. If the sites are simply victims of the Google sand box then I will have slowly develop the sites and wait for them to come out of the sand box. BUT, if the sites were de indexed because Google had a mood swing and decided that most, and therefore all, INFO domains were bad for its algorithm, that I cannot change. I can’t control Google. But, I can control what I do. But, before I can fix the problem with these sites I have to understand the potential issues and how to resolve them.

There has been a lot of speculation on why some BANS sites have been deindexed and others have not. I have made a fairly significant investment in BANS already. This investment has primarily been in time researching and building the BANS sites themselves. The financial investment has only been about $180 dollars; BANS only costs about $97 dollars and the domains cost roughly $80 dollars. At this point its the time that is the most important. So, before I spend any more time building out BANS stores I really want to understand why these sites were deindexed, what I can do to get them reindexed and what I should do to avoid having these sites deindexed in the future.

So why were these site removed from Google’s index. That is precisely the question I am going to try and answer over the next few posts. I am going to look at each potential reason for these sites having been deindexed and try to figure out how to get these sites reindexed and how to keep them indexed.

Mine got delisted yesterday morning, but I think I iknow why. What absolutely pisses me off the most with the almighty Google is their superior attitude and
a huge lack of support for webmasters.

I think I know the reason for my delisting, but I’m not 100% sure, and how the hell do you fix something when no one will tell you what’s broke.

I know my site is nothing fancy. but it’s my first attempt at building a Bans store, and I tried to do everything by the book. Makes white hat techniques look like a waste of time.

    Hi Mike,

BANS if not built out properly can be considered a thin affiliate site. When a BANS site is built out properly then, read has a lot of content, it is less likely to get banned. I have moved to using phpBay and have had really good success with it. But, you have to set it up with wordpress so there is a bit of a setup overhead at first.

    Hi Again,

I know all about the thin sites and have tried to make my site better by adding content and an easier search environment.

I was slowly gaining in page position for my main phrases when I disappeared off the map in early June.

Since then I’ve been working on backlinks, etc…, to fall in line with Googles vague guidlines and reappeared around 5 weeks later. I’ve moved back up to page five and received a page rank of 2 which made me believe I was on the right track.

In the last few weeks, someone had done some malicious things to get me banned first from Ebay, and then from Google.

What ticks me off the most is that there is no appeals process, no warning or explanation. Also the fact that someone can destroy what work you’ve done as easily as a few mouse clicks and a few lines of text.

That is Internet marketing for you. Unfortunately, some people are unscrupulous enough to use Google zealousness in fighting spam as a tactic to remove competition in a particular niche.

You can file for reinclusion through Google Webmaster tools. Reinclusion requires visual inspection. How long that will take is anyones guess. I have heard of people waiting months and some just a few days. I have never had to go through the process.

If the BANS site your are talking about is the one in your link then from what i saw of it, there seems to be a good bit of content.

    Hi Again Tzu,

I called Google this last Friday and was told to file it as a spam complaint. I’ve done that and now waiting to hear back before I resubmit my site again for inclusion.

One thing I’m having a rough time understanding is what the overall strategy of referral spam is. If Google sees a lot of inbound porn links to your site, doesn’t that put you in the bad neighborhood by their standards? And if so, can it be enough to have your site delisted?

To me, it’s too much of a coincidence to be anything else, but maybe I’m wrong.

    Thanks for your replies!
    Mike
